“Let’s all keep voting for the Gaffer District, once a day every day. It’s another opportunity to help put our region on the national map," said Senator O'Mara and Assemblyman Palmesano.
Let’s all take part in this opportunity to help highlight our region on another national map! It’s a chance to express our pride in one of the great downtowns anywhere, as well as to share our appreciation for all of the hard work that so many civic leaders and business owners have put into making the Gaffer District such an outstanding regional and statewide attraction.

Corning, N.Y., May 22—With less than one week left to cast a  vote, State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) once again are reminding area residents to keep voting for  Corning’s Gaffer District in the “American’s Main Streets” competition sponsored by Independent We Stand (www.independentwestand.org).

The Gaffer District has reached the contest quarterfinals and remains among 25 Main Streets nationwide still in the running to advance to the semifinals in the current round of voting underway until Sunday, May 26.

Ten semifinalists will be chosen by online voters and then a panel of judges will select the winning downtown, which will receive $25,000 to help revitalization initiatives and to promote buying local.

In a joint statement, O’Mara and Palmesano said, “It has been an incredible and successful show of local pride and support so far.  Now we need to keep voting for the Gaffer District, once a day every day.  Let’s all take part in this opportunity to help highlight our region on another national map!  It’s a chance to express our pride in one of the great downtowns anywhere, as well as to share our appreciation for all of the hard work that so many civic leaders and business owners have put into making the Gaffer District such an outstanding regional and statewide attraction.”
