Senator O'Mara presents an official Legislative Resolution honoring the 125th Anniversary of the Chemung County SPCA to Executive Director Tom Geroy.

We were truly grateful to have this opportunity to show our admiration and express our thanks to the entire organization and its volunteers for their phenomenal caring and commitment to animal welfare in Chemung County.

Elmira, N.Y., August 17--Earlier this year State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Chris Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) sponsored an offical Legislative Resolution commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA.

Yesterday, O'Mara took the opportunity to visit the Chemung County SPCA on 2435 State Route 352 in Elmira and present a copy of the Resolution to Executive Director Tom Geroy.

"It's just an incredible honor for our organization and its 125th anniversary to be recognized by the state legislature. I'm incredibly proud of that," said Geroy.

The Chemung County SPCA is recognized as one of the oldest continuously operating humane societies in America.

The Resolution sponsored by O'Mara and Friends reads, in part, "Founded in 1891, the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA is one of the oldest animal shelters of its kind not only in New York State, but also in the entire Nation...A critically important resource, this vital animal welfare organization has influenced shelters across the country, and continuously shown the true character of the people who live in its community."

O'Mara said, "We were truly grateful to have this opportunity to show our admiration and express our thanks to the entire organization and its volunteers for their phenomenal caring and commitment to animal welfare in Chemung County."
