Flushing, NY—Senator Toby Ann Stavisky (D-Flushing) awarded Sharon Yeung the Leonard P. Stavisky Award for Academic Excellence at today’s graduation at PS 242, the Leonard P. Stavisky School.
The award is given every year to a graduate of PS 242 who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement as determined by the faculty and administration.
“Congratulations to Sharon on her wonderful achievements at PS 242,” said Senator Stavisky. My husband and I were both staunch believers in the importance of education and public service and when she gets older I hope Sharon will use her talents to help serve the people of our community.”
The award and school are named after Senator Stavisky’s late husband, Leonard P. Stavisky who served in the State Assembly and the State Senate. A passionate educator, the late Senator Stavisky was a leading advocate on education issues and chaired the Education Committee in the Assembly for eight years.
