Students in Mrs. Angela Kremberg’s 5th grade class recently welcomed State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. to Chatterton Elementary School. Senator Fuschillo was invited by Mrs. Kremberg’s class to help them learn about state government.
Senator Fuschillo explained to the students what his job is as a State Senator and how ideas are turned into new laws. To help illustrate the legislative process, Senator Fuschillo had the students offer an idea for a new law, debate its merits, and then vote on whether it should be adopted.
Senator Fuschillo also showed the students a copy of one the laws he sponsored, including the pen which was used by the Governor to sign it into law. Afterwards, Senator Fuschillo invited each of the students to send him their own ideas for new laws.
Senator Fuschillo and the students are pictured with Mrs. Kremberg and student observer Melissa Losee from Molloy College.
