Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) announced today that he obtained $5,000 in state grant funding for the Baldwin Public Library, which will be used to help fund the Library’s new Outreach/Career Center.
"This Center will be of great value to all the residents of Baldwin because it will provide individuals of all ages access to information and services that will help them improve their lives," said Senator Fuschillo, a member of the Senate’s Education Committee.
According to the Library, the Center will be open to all Baldwin Union Free School District residents and give patrons of all ages access to extensive resources. Students will find college planning databases and Internet sources on the Center’s new computers, as well as college catalogs, financial aid information and printed materials on various careers. These resources will enable them to explore potential college majors and make career choices.
The Center will also have employment databases and announcements, as well as information regarding career changes, on-the-job training, and interviewing techniques for individuals who are exploring new job opportunities. Seniors will also benefit, as the Center will offer assistance provided by Senior Connections volunteers with information and referral services on a variety of issues, such as senior prescription programs, social security, housing, and taxes.
"The Library is extremely grateful for Senator Fuschillo’s support in obtaining funding for the Center that will provide these much needed services to the community," stated Catherine Overton, Librarian-in-Charge. "Once a dream, this center will now become a reality."
