Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently visited Merrick Avenue Middle School to speak with members of the student government.
Senator Fuschillo explained to the students how government works and how new ideas are turned into law. To help illustrate the process, Senator Fuschillo listened to ideas for new laws from the students, and then had them engage in a debate about the issue.
Afterwards, Senator Fuschillo answered questions from the students.
"It is important for young students to know how their government works so they can become more actively involved as they get older," said Senator Fuschillo. "I really enjoyed hearing the students’ thoughts and ideas."
