Schneiderman Argues For Judicial Pay Raises

On Thursday, December 13th, the State Senate reconvened in Albany for what is likely to be the last legislative session of 2007. In addition to confirming a handful of the governor's appointees, the Senate passed a one-house judicial pay raise bill.

There is no doubt that our judges deserve a raise. Judges in New York State have not received a salary increase since 1999, and have been seriously undercompensated for their work in recent years. As a result, many our top justices earn less than newly-hired junior associates at some of our state's law firms.
