State Sen. Jim Gaughran announced a bill Monday to toughen penalties for those convicted of boating while intoxicated when children are aboard the vessel.

The bill,  S.6644, would make the crime a felony instead of a misdemeanor.  Gaughran also urged the passage of another bill he sponsors, S.3055, which allows for the revocation of a driver’s license following a BWI conviction. Gaughran was joined by Lisa Gaines and Gina Lieneck, boating safety advocates, who lost their daughters in boating accidents.
