Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) joined with the parents and teachers of the Jericho Elementary School as they officially opened their new playground. The cost of the purchase and construction of the playground was offset by a $50,000 grant secured by Senator Flanagan.
The school, which is located in Centereach, has been looking to build this new playground for many years and the funding secured by Senator Flanagan greatly assisted in making that goal a reality. Suffolk County Legislator Joseph Caracappa provided $25,000 in funding for the playground and the remainder of the money was secured through local fundraising.
"I am pleased to have been able to help the Jericho Playground Committee in making their vision a reality. This new playground is a wonderful addition to our community and will be enjoyed by our children for many years to come," stated Legislator Caracappa.
"I want to thank everyone for their hard work and patience as we look forward to providing our students with a lovely playground for their exercise and recreational needs for many years to come," stated Principal Claudine DiMuzio. "Our new playground comes from the efforts of many community members, including the members of our playground committee, our staff, the PTA, Senator Flanagan and Legislator Caracappa."
The new playground offers the children forJericho Elementary School a wide-range of new equipment to enjoy. It also provides them with safety enhancements such as the foam rubber that surrounds the play area.
"The parents and the school district did a great job putting this new playground together and I am happy to help them realize this goal. Securing this funding for the children allows caring adults to provide a safe and fun playground that our children need," stated Senator Flanagan. "When you see the enjoyment in the children's faces when they opened it up was truly priceless."
