Senator Serrano participated once again in the Mexican Independence Day celebration, hosted by CECOMEX. The event drew thousands of residents and tourists to the streets of East Harlem .

“Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have played an increbibly important role in the development of New York ’s culture and economy,” said the Senator, who has emerged as a vocal defender of immigrant rights in the state.

“It is such a pleasure to see the turn-out at today’s event,” he said. “At a time when immigrants face many challenges, and must confront so much intolerance, we must come together to show both our strength and unity.”
