Senator Kevin Parker Distributes Hundreds Of "back Packs" Of School Supplies

Brooklyn, NY – The back-to-school experience was made a lot smoother for hundreds of children and their parents who benefitting from the family jamboree and giveaway hosted by State Senator Kevin Parker. Similarly, has he had sone for the past three years, Senator Parker promoted the end of summer event as a fun family day. This year however, it was hosted in conjunction with Redemption Inc. and New Hope Christian Fellowship Center and so attracted a wider cross-section of people from the district and surrounding areas. With a collective effort of Senator Parker’s office, Redemption Inc. and the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. more than 1200 back packs of supplies were distributed.

The picture perfect late summer day contributed to making the jamboree an overwhelming success. Even so, a full scale of outdoor activities, coupled with the food and music, were enough to satisfy the participants. In all about 20 vendors supported the event with fun activities for all ages and a wealth of age appropriate information on youth programs and college assistance.

"I view this back-to-school jamboree as one of the keenly important events on our office calendar of activities," said Senator Parker. "It could be an overwhelming task for parents in getting their kids back to school or even preparing for those entering school for the first time. It is a great opportunity to assist these parents with some of their kids’ primary school supplies. But moreover, it is just as rewarding to promote family relations with a great fun day that the entire household can enjoy together," he added."

The highlight of the event was a fashion show produced by The Black Barbies which gave local models and designers an opportunity to put their talents on display. The day’s activities included face painting for the kids who also lined up for a chance to take pictures with some of their favorite cartoon characters – Dora The Explorer and Sponge Bob.

The event took place at the Paerdegat Park located at Albany Avenue and Farragut Rd.
