Krueger noted that most of the Senate Republicans have already endorsed Mitt Romney for president, and suggested that the effort to squelch Stavisky’s resolution was a miniature version of assaults on reproduction rights on the federal level. “This is the beginning of their little national Planned Parenthood moment, so to speak,” she said.
It’s also the opening salvo by Democrats in a year that began with Gov. Andrew Cuomo calling for passage of the state Reproductive Health Act in his State of the State address. That bill’s sponsor in the Senate, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, attended the press conference along with Sen. Tom Duane and representatives of several pro-choice groups.
