Auburn— Stressing the importance of giving our youths recreational opportunities during the summer months, New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today announced that he has secured $200,000 in State funding to make needed repairs at Casey Park Pool, allowing the pool to reopen this summer. Senator Nozzolio made the announcement at Casey Park, located at 150 North Street in Auburn.
“Casey Park Pool is an important component of Auburn’s efforts to keep our youths active while they are out of school,” said Senator Nozzolio. “This summer, the pool will be open for Auburn’s children and families to enjoy. It is a great pleasure to secure this State grant to make significant repairs and improvements to this important facility.”
Today’s funding will allow for the repair of the side walls of Casey Park Pool, which is over 30 years old. During the announcement, Senator Nozzolio advised of the importance of keeping children active while out of school to allow them to avoid the pitfalls of taking drugs and crime.
“As State Senator, keeping our streets safe is one of my top priorities,” said Senator Nozzolio. “Providing healthy activities for our children go a long way to help keep our kids and our entire community safe. Casey Park Pool provides opportunities for kids and allows them to resist the temptation of delinquency.”
Auburn Mayor Timothy Lattimore said, “Senator Nozzolio has been extremely helpful to the City of Auburn during some tough economic times. His help today securing this funding will allow us to open Casey Park Pool for our residents and I sincerely appreciate his commitment to the City of Auburn.”
Mike Long, Director of Capital Projects and Grants for the City of Auburn said, “We would like to thank Senator Nozzolio for his support and for securing this funding to maintain Casey Park Pool. The pool is an important asset for our community and has been utilized quite heavily in past summers.”
Auburn City Councilor Bill Graney said, “Senator Nozzolio was extremely receptive when I spoke to him about the serious need for the rehabilitation of Casey Park Pool. The repairs that we will now be able to do because of this funding will allow us to reopen and give our residents a great recreational activity during the hot summer months.”
