Grand Island, NY- New York State Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D- Parts of Erie & Niagara Counties), Chair of the Senate’s Environmental Conservation Committee, along with Town of Grand Island Supervisor Peter McMahon will announce a $250,000 capital grant to be utilized towards improvements at the town’s Sewage Treatment Facility. The check presentation will take place on Saturday, September 19th at 10am at the Knights of Columbus, located at 1841 Whitehaven Road on Grand Island.
The funding was approved during the Senate’s session in Albany last week as a re-appropriation from years past. It will be administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State New York (DASNY).
“I’m proud to be able to secure this funding to provide a better quality of life to area residents, marine and wild life. Clean water is vital to the sustainability of everything,” stated Thompson.
The funding has been secured as Thompson recently announced a public hearing regarding New York State’s water quality. A local hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2009 from 11am-3pm at the Erie County Historical Society, located at 25 Nottingham Court Buffalo, New York 14216. The hearings are open to the public to both attend and participate.
