State Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) will commemorate Black History Month by honoring the vibrant African American community in the 3rd Senate District, which stretches from Brentwood and Central Islip in the western portion of the district through Bellport and Mastic Beach in the eastern most portions.
As part of commemorating the month, Sen. Foley’s office is now accepting nominations for Black History Month Awards to be given to those individuals who have made special contributions in various fields. Nomination forms can be obtained from Sen. Foley’s website at www.foley.nysenate.gov and can also be requested by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
“Black History Month is a reminder of the contributions by African Americans which continue to shape our country in profound ways,” said Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point). “New York State, in particular, has been touched by countless African American giants who have left a lasting legacy in our government, civic life, culture, business, and every other aspect of our society,” said Foley.
Sen. Foley encourages residents to nominate worthy individuals for the Black History Month Recognition Awards, which will be given out at a special ceremony to take place on February 26, 2010.
