Senator David Carlucci Urges Residents to Get Their Flu Shot to Avoid Potential Twindemic
(West Nyack, NY) – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) received his flu shot this week at Crystal Run Healthcare in West Nyack. The Senator said he is encouraging all New Yorkers to get their flu shot and not wait.
Senator David Carlucci said, “Health experts say a flu shot is more important than ever due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The flu season is expected to be strong, and a flu shot will help prevent you from becoming sick and putting others at risk for respiratory illness.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine before the end of October with very rare exceptions. Health experts warn if you do not get the flu vaccine and catch the flu, you are more likely to experience serious illness and hospitalization than those who have had their annual flu shot.
However, many New Yorkers may be hesitant to visit a doctor’s office or pharmacy due to the coronavirus. Senator Carlucci reminds residents that Crystal Run Healthcare is offering several drive-through flu clinics in Rockland County to limit contact due to COVID-19.
“There is really no excuse to wait,” said Senator David Carlucci. “We should be doing everything we can to prevent inundating our health care workers who are treating COVID-19 patients and others in critical need or with compromised immune systems.”
An appointment is required at Crystal Run’s drive through flu clinics, as well as for an in-person visit to receive the flu vaccine. For more information, you can click here: https://www.crystalrunhealthcare.com/flu.
Additionally, other medical practices and pharmacies in Rockland and Westchester Counties have implemented rigorous safety measures to offer the flu vaccine safely. Senator Carlucci said if residents have trouble finding a flu clinic or do not have health insurance, they should contact his office at (845) 623-3627.
