NYS Senator Eric Adams, joined by non-violence advocacy groups, launched a citywide multimedia initiative to call for an end to gun violence. Using billboards posted throughout the city and an informational YouTube video, Senator Adams calls on parents to monitor their children’s behavior and engage in meaningful dialogue about the dangers of firearms.
NYS Senator Eric Adams states: “Gun violence is all too prevalent in our society; it is a plague, and we must dedicate ourselves to its eradication. We must use both education and legislation to combat the deadly consequences of weapons-related crimes.
“I am announcing today the intensive renewal of my campaign to promote prevention/intervention education and sponsor legislation to control the use of firearms. Tomorrow will mark the unveiling of billboards across the city and the introduction of a video on YouTube to inaugurate the education component. Further, I am introducing legislation to require that the mental hygiene check performed during the initial issuance of a firearm permit be repeated each time that permit is renewed. This process will enable the State to safeguard against legal firearms in the hands of those with diminished capacity.”
“We must combat the scourge of gun violence. The bullet from a criminal’s weapon pierces the flesh of our loved ones and the emotional body of our family. The substance of the larger community is also rent and wounded. We must protect our society from the disastrous effects of gun crimes. We must educate our citizenry and enact tougher gun control legislation.”
