Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I,REF-Glenville) and Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I-Ballston) recently at the state Capitol honored the New York State Champion Charlton Heights Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District).

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program in which students learn how to think outside-the-box by working as a team to solve open-ended problems. Students learn creativity, innovation, problem-solving, critical thinking, global awareness, interpersonal and collaborative communication skills, self direction and adaptability.

This remarkable all-girl team of six fourth graders captured the state title in March at the state tournament in Binghamton. Just before Memorial Day Weekend, the team took third place at the World Finals at Michigan State University, placing first in the performance portion of the competition in a contest which included 72 other teams from all over the U.S., China, Poland, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Switzerland and Mexico!
