Senate Standing Committees On Insurance, Health And Mental Health AND Developmental Disabilities To Hold Joint Hearing RE: Autism

October 22, 2009

(Albany, NY)-Committed to meeting the needs of individuals and families faced with autism, the New York State Senate Standing Committees on Insurance, Health and Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities will be holding a joint hearing on Friday, October 23 in Albany to explore what health insurers, the federal government, state and local governments and educational institutions are doing to meet those needs.
Testimony will be heard exploring whether health insurers should be mandated to provide coverage for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  New York law currently does not mandate that health insurers cover specific ASD treatments or services, however several other states have passed laws mandating coverage.
