Senator Carl Kruger Joins Citywide Relief Effort For Haitian Earthquake Victims

January 13, 2010

Senator Carl Kruger (D-Brooklyn), Chair of the Finance Committee, has joined the citywide relief effort announced in Brooklyn today to assist those devastated by yesterday’s earthquake in Haiti.
“I offer my deepest prayers to the victims of this disaster and to the many thousands of Brooklynites with family members in Haiti who are enduring unimaginable pain and uncertainty over the fate of their loved ones,” Sen. Kruger said
The noon press conference was held at Holy Cross Church in Flatbush, the neighborhood that boasts one of the highest concentrations of Haitian immigrants in the U.S. outside Florida.
Borough President Marty Markowitz, Mayor Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Council Members Jumaane Williams and Mathieu Eugene and a host of City Council members, community groups and clergy have also pledged their support to this major relief effort.
In coordination with major international rescue organizations, the relief effort will identify shortly exactly what is needed and assure a safe way to get it to those in need. Drop sites will be announced along with a list of organizations accepting cash donations for victims.
“As New Yorkers, we will pull together and do all we can to assist the thousands of Haitians whose lives have been destroyed by this terrible tragedy,” Sen. Kruger said.
