Statement From Senate Majority Conference Leader John L. Sampson

December 16, 2009

“After meeting with Senator Skelos earlier this week and discussing ways in which we can commit to a more bipartisan and functioning Chamber, one very substantive action is now before us: expand on the historic rules reform passed earlier this year by empowering Minority members with the chairmanships of major Senate committees.

This is an exciting opportunity to create a more bipartisan and effective Senate.  I always appreciate Senator Skelos’s ideas and believe we can continue to work together to restore integrity to our Chamber and expand on the bipartisan legislative successes we’ve had in recent months on the deficit reduction plan, Green Jobs, school governance, Public Authorities Reform, Tier V, and Leandra’s Law.”
