Statement From Senate Majority Conference Leader John L. Sampson

February 23, 2010

The Senate Majority has long supported fair and equitable salaries for our judiciary to ensure New Yorkers have the highest quality court system in the nation.  Encouraging our best and brightest to become and remain judges in New York is essential to protecting the peoples’ right to a sound system of justice.”

However, during the worst fiscal crisis in decades, it is difficult to justify pay raises for anyone in public service.  Controlling spending among all sectors of government is not an easy decision, but it is the right decision at this time for the people of New York.
