Statement Of Senate Majority Conference Leader John L. Sampson

March 10, 2010

For decades, Albany spent more than it had and stuck the people with the bill. We need a fair, responsible and bipartisan budget that makes the smart cuts and tough choices New York can afford.

There are many interesting ideas within Lt. Governor Ravitch’s proposal, and we respect his expertise on how to keep our economy moving forward. We appreciate his insight, and look forward to working with him on a long-term solution to the spending problems that have plagued our state far too long.

The Senate Majority will find common ground to develop a bipartisan budget process with bipartisan solutions to the crisis we all face. Together, we will lower costs, lower taxes, and make our government more efficient and effective to attract businesses that create jobs in a fair and responsible way.
