Statement Of Senate Majority Conference Leader John L. Sampson On The Passage Of The 9/11 Health And Compensation Act

September 30, 2010

Within minutes  of the most horrific terrorist attack our nation has ever seen, brave first responders courageously sacrificed their own health and safety to come to the rescue of those in need. Yesterday, by passing the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, the House of Representatives honored our commitment to protect those who put themselves in harm’s way to help others.
The debt that we owe these selfless individuals can never fully be repaid. Ensuring their health and well-being by providing access to vital medical care is the only action worthy of the valor and heroism they displayed in the face of grave danger.
I congratulate our Congressional delegation and Speaker Pelosi, and I would like to especially recognize Congress members Jerrold Nadler and Carolyn Maloney for their long-standing commitment to passing this legislation. I commend Senators Schumer and Gillibrand for their efforts and leadership, and I urge all of their colleagues in the Senate to do what is right to protect the heroes of 9/11 and pass this critical legislation.
