Statement From Senator Bill Larkin, Chairman Of The Senate Standing Committee On Racing, Gaming And Wagering, On Today's Committee Meeting

William J. Larkin, Jr.

September 12, 2007

"Today’s meeting was a good starting point in our examination of the future of the state racing franchise and the selection of the bidder which will ultimately manage that franchise.

"We have a crucial task before us to ensure that the bidder with the most far sighted business plan be selected to operate the state’s tracks. In addition, it is critical that the selected bidder have unquestioned integrity. Today’s meeting raised more questions. I believe a full Senate hearing should be the next step we take to ensure a successful future for the thoroughbred racing industry in New York State."
