Parole Justice Hearing - Public Opinion S15A and S7514A

December 07, 2022 to December 12, 2022

I returned to Albany on December 7 to hold a hearing on two Parole Justice bills that can save New York a combined $522 million per year by honoring a chance at rehabilitation. My legislation (S.15A) would provide a parole hearing to older incarcerated people, those who are 55 years or older and have served at least 15 years. Long prison sentences without a meaningful chance for parole don’t keep New Yorkers safer or deter crime. This reality is especially egregious for New York’s elder prison population, which has tripled since 2008. Read more about our proposal here. I look forward to fighting for passage of our bill this legislative session.
