As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we should all do our best to follow the guidance set out by the experts. There's a lot of news and information swirling around, so I thought it might be helpful for you to hear directly from infectious disease specialists.
On March 15th, Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal and I co-hosted a virtual town hall to interview three experts:
- Dr. Paul Bieniasz, a Professor Investigator at The Rockefeller University's Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Bieniasz is a virologist who studies the biology and evolution of retroviruses.
- Dr. Theodora Hatziioannou, Research Associate Professor at The Rockefeller University's Laboratory of Retrovirology.
- Dr. Vincent Racaniello, Professor of Microbiology & Immunology at Columbia University.
We had an informative conversation about what COVID-19 is, how it can spread, and common-sense ways all New Yorkers can work together to slow the spread of disease. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, I'll be looking for more innovative ways to share information and resources while we all practice social distancing.
