This petition is requesting that the New York State Department of Transportation immediately commence a complete pedestrian/bicycle safety study of the Route 25A corridor.

Last week, our community was devastated by the death of Nicolo Signore due to an accident at the intersection of Route 25A and Miller Place Road.  Nicolo, a teenage student in Miller Place Schools, was the second death at the intersection during the past last year and a half at that intersection.   In addition, there have been numerous automobile accidents and close calls at that location.  We recognize that there is a DOT study in process currently. We are requesting that the study be completed as soon as possible and recommendations, conclusions and subsequent corrective actions be commenced.

In addition, the Mount Sinai, Rocky Point, and Shoreham-Wading River School District students are in locations where students cross Route 25A to get to and from school.  Clearly, there is a need for a professional study encompassing of all the Route 25A crossings to ascertain the issues that are causing fatalities, accidents and that imperil safe passage.  We have request that a Route 25A corridor study be started and expedited to keep our residents safer.
