Say No to Albany's Gas Stove Ban

SEN. Rob Rolison

This is a recipe for disaster.

While federal bureaucrats only talk (so far) about banning gas stoves in homes, out-of-touch politicians in Albany are ready to follow through on this disastrous policy.

They want to ban gas connections in all new homes and small businesses by 2025, eliminating your ability to cook for your family – even heat your home!

This is not a partisan issue. It’s common sense. With power outages becoming more frequent, middle-class families can’t afford to go without gas.

As we saw recently, and tragically, in Western New York, having alternate sources of energy in an emergency can be the difference between life and death for some, especially our most vulnerable citizens. And thousands of New York small businesses, especially restaurants, which rely on natural gas, risk going out of business if this ban is forced through state government.

Reliable, affordable gas is more convenient and more plentiful than alternatives, yet if left unchecked Albany would replace current gas-powered stoves with all-electric appliances that are less powerful, less convenient, and ironically use dirtier sources of energy.

But we can stop this ill-considered policy before it gets off the ground. We can make state government act responsibly again.

Add your name to the growing list of concerned New Yorkers who are telling Albany: Hands off our gas stoves!
