Gabe Grenci
Honoree Profile
Staff Sergeant Gabe Grenci was born on February 2, 1927 in New Rochelle, New York. His family moved to Long Island when he was a child and he became a member of the first class of students at the Babylon Elementary School in 1933. Upon graduating from Babylon High School in 1945, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Italy during World War II.
Within one year of service, SSG Grenci rapidly rose through the ranks attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Army Personnel Division. He later went on to serve in the Army National Guard for two years and briefly in the United States Navy Reserve prior to receiving his third Honorable Discharge.
In 1948, SSG Grenci began his 42-year career at Northrup Grumman where he proudly worked on the development of the F-14 Tomcat which played an instrumental role in air combat during the Vietnam War and for subsequent decades.
An active member of his community, SSG Grenci has been a member of Babylon American Legion Post #94 for over 75 years where he can always be counted on to lend a helping hand to his fellow veterans and members of the community.
In all his efforts, SSG Grenci is supported by his wife, Josephine, their four children, eleven grandchildren, and a grateful West Islip community!
