Jeff McMillan
US Army

Jeff McMillan graduated from West Point Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. The skills and discipline he learned at West Point helped him build the foundations of leadership he has relied upon both during and after his active military service.

After graduating, he completed basic training at Fort Knox, in Kentucky, and then served as a United States Army officer in South Korea, stationed 20 miles south of the Demilitarized Zone between North Korea and South Korea. Mr. McMillan served as a Tank Platoon Leader and later became a Scout Platoon Leader, where he handled intelligence for a battalion of more than 1,000 men and women. As an Army officer, he was known for his diligence, innovation, and ability to inspire those around him.

Mr. McMillan transitioned to a civilian career in 1992. He has held many notable positions in the finance sector and has spent the majority of his career, more than 17 years, at Morgan Stanley, where he currently serves as Chief Analytics and Data Officer. Prior to his tenure at Morgan Stanley, he served as a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch. Mr. McMillan attributes much of his success to his military service.

Despite Mr. McMillan’s many accomplishments in the business world, when he left the Army, he saw firsthand the difficulties that many veterans face when transitioning to civilian careers. He realized that the military provides many invaluable building blocks for success by instilling good work ethic, loyalty, and dedication, among other qualities, but that many veterans find it challenging to navigate the process of seeking and maintaining a job after leaving the service.

In response to this need, Mr. McMillan has counseled hundreds of veterans on how to smoothly transition from the military to civilian careers. He helps veterans determine how best to launch a new career, identify job opportunities, network, and translate skills and experiences that they gained from the armed forces to positive experiences with civilian jobs. His commitment to the next generation of veterans is abundantly clear through this mentorship.

Mr. McMillan is known in his community as being insightful, courageous, warm, and generous. He is a loving husband and father to his two sons. His wife, Jeannine Kiely, a champion of youth and learning, is the District Leader for the 66th Assembly District, serves on Manhattan Community Board 2 as the Chair of Schools and Education, and has been a stalwart champion of preserving publicly accessible green space in Lower Manhattan. Mr. McMillan and his family live in New York City. New Yorkers, and especially veterans in the city, are better for his support.
