Ramon Agusto Lopez
Honoree Profile
Ramon Agusto Lopez is a first generation born Dominican New Yorker,
raised in the heart of Bushwick in Brooklyn.
The Bushwick neighborhood of his youth has changed and is now filled
with pleasant parks, great shopping, condominiums, restaurants, bars, music
and art. Both of his parents still reside in Bushwick. His retired father goes
through his regular daily routines and his mother spends most of her time in
the kitchen cooking her many phenomenal authentic Dominican dishes with
the best Sazon in town.
Mr. Lopez joined the Army National Guard while on a break from college.
He was in the guard for five years where he served most of his time during
9/11. During this incredibly challenging time, he learned the precarious and
fragile nature of life. “Many people who went to work that day expected
to return home to their families and sadly they did not.” This experience,
according to Mr. Lopez, is one he will never forget and expects to carry for
a lifetime.
Mr. Lopez is a graduate of Manhattan Community College and received his
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minor in Computer Science from
Lehman College, Bronx, New York. He has worked in the field of accounting,
audit, tax, finance and public advocacy ever since.
Mr. Lopez is married to Lucia Pichardo, a high school teacher for the Board
of Education in New York City and has two daughters named Ava Madison
and Leah. He works for the Fortune Society as a contract analyst and is a
member of the Fortune Society Public Policy Committee.
