William J. Byrne

Master Sergeant William J. Byrne has served in both the United States Air Force Active Duty and United States Air Force Reserves throughout his career for over 28 years. During this time, he served in Desert Shield and Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan in addition to many other hostile environments. While in service he served as a Medic, Assistant First Sargent, and a Loadmaster on C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster III aircraft at Dover AFB DE. He amassed well over 3000 flying hours with over 300 in combat.

MSgt. Byrne has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Southwest Asia Medal with 2 Service Stars and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with 2 Service Stars, and other medals and citations.

MSgt. Byrne has served his fellow veterans as a Veteran Service officer for the Nassau County Veteran Service Agency for seven years.

MSgt. Byrne was born in Amityville, New York and raised in Massapequa Park and currently resides in Massapequa with his family. MSgt. Byrne has a Bachelor’s in Science from Empire State University in History and a Master’s in Science from Queens College in Education.

MSgt. Byrne has been married to his wife Joanne for over 25 years. They have three children Kyle, Taylor and Mackenzie. Their son Kyle is a Captain in the USAF Reserves and a C-5 Galaxy pilot. MSgt. Byrne and Captain Byrne served together in Afghanistan. Taylor graduated from George Mason University and Mackenzie is a Senior at PACE University.
