Stanlee Richards
Honoree Profile
Stanlee Richards spent 23 ½ years in the United States Army Reserve and retired
as a Major in 2007. During her time in the military, she held many positions
including Family Care Plan Officer, Movement Officer, Critical Care Nurse, and
Program Coordinator. She spent eleven months on active duty at the 8th Medical
Brigade at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, NY during OEF/OIF working as an Assistant
Chief Nurse, and simultaneously volunteering at the Base, with the family support
group planning and working with the annual retirement workshop team.
Ms. Richards has received many awards including The Army Commendation
Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, The Army Reserve Component
Achievement medal, The Defense Service Ribbon and The Sloan Public Service
for dedication, advocacy, and caring for physically fragile and vulnerable patients.
The Caribbean American, Health Care Award for Outstanding Contribution
to Health of New Yorkers. The Caribbean American Nurses Association, in
recognition of her commitment and dedicated service. She also received the New
York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, Inc. Distinguished
Service Award.
She is a member and vice president of the National Association for Black Military
Women, New York Chapter. The organization’s purpose is to keep alive the
history and heritage of black women who served our nation in the military with
courage and valor.
As Chief Nursing Officer at Health + Hospitals/Carter, she began her career as a
nurse’s aide and continued her education, eventually receiving a Master of Science
and a Post Certificate in Long Term/Post Sub acute Care & Administration.
While working and attending school, she raised a family and participated in many
organizations.
Ms. Richards continues to make time each year to raise funds for the American
Cancer Society. Her team has raised over $100,000 for Breast Cancer Society
by sponsoring multiple fundraising activities. She has volunteered for Wheelchair
Charities Inc. for over 40 years.
Ms. Richards is a member of Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Theta Chi Chapter,
Inc., a member of St. Mary Magdalene Church, and president of the Women’s
Group. She is also a certified CPR instructor.
