Tom Schreck
Honoree Profile
Tom Schreck was born in Buffalo, New York in 1951. Eighteen years later, in 1969, after graduating from Bishop Turner High School in Buffalo, he enlisted in the United States Navy and went on active duty in March 1970.
Mr. Schreck was assigned to the Amphibious Squadron out of Little Creek, Virginia, where he served onboard the USS San Marcos (LSD-25) and then the USS Plymouth Rock (LSD-29). He was deployed to the Mediterranean, Central America and South America. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class and was honorably discharged from active duty in March 1974.
After his service in the Navy, Mr. Schreck graduated from Niagara County Community College in 1981 and transferred to SUNY Brockport with a Major in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Sociology and Psychology. While attending SUNY Brockport, he was recruited by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office as a part time Deputy in 1981. In 1983, he was hired as a full time Police Bureau Deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and retired as a Deputy Sheriff in December 2003.
Mr. Schreck has been actively involved in the Chili American Legion Post #1830 since joining in 1989. He has been a charter member of the Post’s “Red Knights Color Guard”, served as the Board of Directors and as the Post Commander. Currently, he serves as an American Legion Boys State of New York Counselor. Additionally, he serves as a State Counselor with the Boys State Police Program, the Monroe Country Boys State Committee Chairman and was elected to serve as the District 7 Boys State Director.
Mr. Schreck’s commitment and dedication to our community are evident throughout the numerous roles in which he is involved. Serving as a Sergeant of the Guard for the Monroe County Honor Guard, appointed to the National Security Sub-Committee: National Guard & Reserve and National Security Sub-Committee: Unconventional Warfare & Intelligence.
Mr. Schreck is also a member of the Town of Chili, New York Traffic and Safety Committee, and has been since 1996.
