Darryl St. George
Honoree Profile
Darryl St. George enlisted in the United States Navy serving in Afghanistan. He obtained the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer, Fleet Marine Force (F.M.F. Corpsman).
For his service and valor, Mr. St. George earned numerous awards and medals including National Defense Service Medal, Marksman 9mm Pistol, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Awd NAVADMIN 280/06 or 141/07, GW-Terrorism Service Medal, NATO Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
Mr. St. George was a skilled, valued Corpsman deployed in an arduous and highly kinetic combat environment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. An outstanding instructor, Mr. St. George taught 30 Marines on IFAK, tourniquets, pressure dressings and abdominal wounds. This skill set helped ensure and instill a higher confidence level in each Marine.
A solid sick call Corpsman, Mr. St. George rendered daily sick calls to 200 Marines in the Weapons Company. His efforts assisted in increasing the work hours that allowed the Marines to carry out their daily mission of the Company as well as the battalion. In addition, while Mr. St. George was deployed, he treated his platoon Marines for a myriad of illnesses and injuries; he also used his skills and training to treat 10 local nationals for illness and injury.
Mr. St. George, an outstanding Fleet Marine Force Corpsman, bravely conducted over 60 mounted and dismounted patrols throughout strenuous terrain. In addition, he completed seven clearing operations and assisted in the evacuation of the four heat casualties during operation Harvest Moon. Mr. St. George attentively rendered medical treatment to several enemy Prisoners of War.
Mr. St. George is also a committed civic leader and former president of the Greenlawn Civic Association. Following the sudden death of his younger brother from drugs, Mr. St. George became an advisor to Northport High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions, where he led anti-drug and alcohol presentations for students from across his community.
Mr. St. George teaches History at Northport High School and resides in Centerport.
