John J. Brady

John J. Brady served in the United States Army, Army Reserves, and the Naval Intelligence Reserve Program, retiring at the rank of Intelligence Specialist 1st Class.
Mr. Brady immigrated to New York at the age of 16. He volunteered to join the Army and achieved the rank of Infantryman. He was stationed in Germany, as well as other locations abroad.
He completed active duty in 1968 and joined the New York City Police Department in 1969. There, he served in a variety of positions – from Patrol Officer to investigative assignments – in all ranks – including Lieutenant.
In 1972, he joined the Army Reserve, where he served for eight years, and in 1982, he entered the Naval Intelligence Reserve Program, retiring as Chief in 1995.
Mr. Brady earned a Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude in 1977 from New York Institute of Technology, and an MPA from City University of New York in 1982. In 1992, he completed the FBI National Academy course at Quantico, VA.
In 1987, Mr. Brady became a member of the Levittown American Legion, serving in various officer positions including two terms as Post Commander. He also serves as the Post’s Child Welfare Chairman working with several groups, including two Cub Scout Packs.
He has led annual fundraising efforts for children and adults with autism and Down syndrome. He participates in a variety of Post committees including the Coloring Book Donation Program for hospitalized children, the Elementary School Flag Etiquette Program, food drives and the Color Guard.
Mr. Brady participates in Nassau County Veterans Stand Downs, visits veterans at the VA hospital, participates in the Day at the Races, and has been a driver for the DAV. He supports the food pantry at the local parish church, delivering food to the needy, as well as other church programs at St. Bernard’s RC Church.
Mr. Brady is a long-standing member of Levittown Knights of Columbus and Levittown Ancient Order of Hibernians, where he has held several positions.
In 2012, Mr. Brady was awarded the Town of Hempstead Veterans Service Award for his dedication to helping fellow veterans in their time of need.
In 1973, Mr. Brady settled down in Levittown with his wife, Geraldine; they are the proud parents of seven children.
