John Compitello
Honoree Profile
John Compitello served 35 years in the United States Army and United States Army Reserve. He retired as a Master Sergeant and served with the 1st Infantry Division, 8th Infantry Division, 98th Training Division and the Multi-National Force in Iraq.
During his honorable and distinguished career, he earned many awards and recognitions including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal.
Mr. Compitello served five years as Commander of American Legion Post 1151 in Henrietta. During his time, he also served as a County Vice-Commander and as Adjutant of the County Honor Guard.
Mr. Compitello’s dedication and leadership inspired fellow Legion members to work together to raise funds to expand veteran, charitable donation, scholarship, and sponsorship programs. The Post, dedicated to our veterans, partnered with the Henrietta Veterans of Foreign Wars and merged with the Rush American Legion, strengthening all three organizations. By the end of Mr. Compitello’s term, the Post was on solid financial footing.
A committed advocate, Mr. Compitello has worked tirelessly to strengthen ties to the Rush-Henrietta community and has assisted numerous charitable organizations with fundraising and support. When other veterans organizations needed a home, Mr. Compitello provided them with a place to operate at no cost, including the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans Bridge and Blue Star Mothers.
During Mr. Compitello’s term as Commander, the Post saw many members recognized for their efforts at State, district, county and local levels.
Mr. Compitello has served our country and our community with pride and distinction.
