Sean Lindstrom
Honoree Profile
Sean Lindstrom enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 2005, serving as E3 Lance Corporal.
He was deployed to Iraq, where he served with various units. Ultimately, he returned home in October 2005 with the local 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines when his active duty service concluded. He was honorably discharged in November 2007, and earned the Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Once back home, Mr. Lindstrom’s commitment to service continued through his work at the VA WNY Healthcare System (VAWNYHS). In 2012, he began overseeing the Stand Down in Buffalo, a one-day event designed to provide services and information to all veterans in the Western New York area. When he took it over, the event hosted around 150 veterans and 25 service providers. Under his leadership, it has grown exponentially, and is now hosted at the Key Bank Center with more than 1,500 veterans attending, and 250 service providers participating, in what is now the largest Stand Down in the United States.
Mr. Lindstrom’s impact on our veterans has never been more evident than during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the VA’s COVID-19 Vaccine Coordinator, he was instrumental in both the development and implementation of the VA’s Vaccination approach, which repurposed a free-standing 14,000 square foot climate-controlled mobile field medical tent for issuing vaccinations. This approach was incredibly efficient, enabling staff to vaccinate over 1,000 individuals per day. His constant presence at the vaccination site, seven days a week, was one of the reasons the organization was able to vaccinate so many individuals very quickly.
Mr. Lindstrom also provided the leadership that enabled VAWNYHS to conduct multiple pop-up single day vaccination clinics in the Southern Tier, including the largest Veterans Affairs rural vaccination clinic, during which over 1,000 individuals were vaccinated in a single day at an American Legion Post in Dunkirk.
Mr. Lindstrom was born and raised in Lackawanna, and currently resides in Hamburg, New York with his wife of 15 years, Sarah, and their five children.
