Colleen McCarthy
US Marine Corps

Colleen McCarthy served in the United States Marine Corps. She achieved the rank of Corporal.

Ms. McCarthy served from 1981–1985 as MOS 1031/Unit Diary Clerk, and received the Good Conduct Medal and three Meritorious Masts.

After receiving her honorable discharge in 1985, she went to work for the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, recently retiring after 34 years as an Administrative Manager. Ms. McCarthy belongs to and has held many positions in the American Legion for the past 25 years, including Commander of Theodore Korony Post #253. She currently serves as the Adjutant for her Post. She graduated from the American Legion College and is a member of the American Legion Press Association.

In 2015, she created a website for her Post, www.Theodorekoronypost253.com and is the webmaster for the site. She received an award from the American Legion Press Association for web content.

Through the American Legion, she is also the Co-director of the Children’s Christmas Toy Drive, which collects toys to be distributed to needy children every holiday season. She serves on the Post’s Scholarship Committee where scholarships are awarded annually to the children and grandchildren of its members. She is also an American Legion Auxiliary member and assists when needed. She served as Bronx County Commander for two years, and presently serves as the Treasurer of the Bronx County American Legion.

Ms. McCarthy was pivotal in establishing the NY-6 Cpl. Ramona Valdez Chapter of the Women Marines Association, where she currently serves as Secretary, and is a member of the Marine Corps League.

She has served as the Secretary of the United Veterans Parade Committee in the Bronx since 2004, and serves as the Co-director of the Christian Engeldrum Support the Troops Care Package Program. The care packages are shipped to the troops abroad with over 10,000 boxes shipped to date.

Ms. McCarthy is a lifelong Bronx resident and continually serves her fellow veterans in any way she can.
