Vito Giobbie

Vito Giobbie served in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Specialist 4th 

Mr. Giobbie was sent to Vietnam during the period of the Tet Offensive. He was injured in Vietnam, and after a period of recovery, he was sent to 8th Army 55th Aviation Unit in South Korea. There he worked as a Mechanic and Large Wrecker Driver.

For his valor and service to his country, Mr. Giobbie earned numerous recognitions, including the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service with 3 brown stars, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation, Korean Defense Service Medal, and Ambassador of Peace Medal from the President of South Korea.

Following his military experiences, Mr. Giobbie became active in many local and national organizations. He was one of the founders of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 421. He is a life member of many organizations dedicated to assisting not only Korean and Vietnam veterans, but also those who have been injured in the line of duty.

He remains active with the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and is a member of the Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis Freedom Foundation and the United Staten Island Veterans Organization.

Mr. Giobbie has dedicated his time and efforts to developing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Staten Island, helped to erect the Purple Heart Memorial and has coordinated the Staten Island Fleet Week ceremonies. 

In all he does, Mr. Giobbie has sought to ensure that the heroes of the past are remembered and recognized by generations to come.
