Ms. Napoleon is widely known for her deep commitment to her neighbors, from coordinating food distribution to advocating for the Housing Authority to make necessary repairs.
As the COVID-19 pandemic hit New York City in early 2020, Ms. Napoleon stepped up to support her neighbors in Baruch Houses. While residents were falling ill and many were afraid to leave their homes due to the virus, Ms. Napoleon worked day and night to ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, received food boxes and personal protective equipment directly at their door.
Ms. Napoleon’s unwavering commitment to Baruch became a lifeline for her community during this time, and what began as an emergency distribution effort has turned into an efficient and established mutual aid and support network that now serves not only Baruch, but residents across the Lower East Side. Ms. Napoleon’s warm spirit and the contagious kindness she brings to this work has inspired numerous others in the community to volunteer their time as well.
Ms. Napoleon’s dedication to service began at a young age. Growing up in Baruch Houses, her father, Roberto Napoleon, served as President of the Baruch Houses Tenant Association for over 50 years. Here she learned the value of compassion and community early on – as well as the power of organizing.
Throughout all of her work, Ms. Napoleon demonstrates a deep devotion to community care, and embodies the values of empathy, leadership and strength. Her dedicated service sets a high example for all of us, and her ongoing contributions to this community have left an indelible mark on the Lower East Side.
