Jane R. Devine

Jane R. Devine has dedicated her life to public service and has held a variety of positions on both the town and county levels.

From 1978 to 1987, Ms. Devine represented the former 17th Legislative District as a Suffolk County Legislator and, for a portion of that tenure, was the first female leader of the minority caucus.

From 1988 to 1991, she served as Commissioner of Consumer Affairs for Suffolk County. Most recently, she served as a Board Member for the Suffolk County Water Authority, from 2007 to 2022, where she co-authored a series of reform initiatives promoting efficiency, transparency and accountability. Throughout her tenure, Ms. Devine has been a leader in cutting excess expenditures. In addition, she previously served as member of numerous boards encompassing arts to ethics.

Ms. Devine’s professional career spans a wide range of posts dedicated to education and consumer protection. She served as Director of Consumer Education, and was a member of the Consumer Protection Board for the Town of Huntington, and a consultant to the New York State Consumer Protection Board.

She was a founding partner of a small public relations company, and served for a time as pastoral consultant to the Long Island Association for AIDS Care (LIAAC).

In 2015, Ms. Devine became a founding member and President of the Board of New Hour for Women and Children, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women who are incarcerated – and their children – by assisting them in reintegrating back into their community once released from the correctional system.

In addition to graduate work at the Fordham University School of Law, studies in Sociology and a Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education from the Nassau County Medical Center, Ms. Devine holds a Bachelor of Arts from the College of New Rochelle and a Master of Arts from C.W. Post - Long Island University College of Management.
