Mary Anne Corasaniti
Honoree Profile
Mary Anne Corasaniti has spent her entire life advocating for the elderly of Central New York and is an expert in the fields of dementia and elder abuse. She has said many times that her lifelong mission is to “see that older adults in Central New York are honored, respected and valued.”
Although their press release stated that Ms. Corasaniti “retired” as the Executive Director of the Alzheimer's Association, CNY Chapter in 2005, she is anything but retired. Ms. Corasaniti continues her active role in senior causes, serving on the Vera House Coalition on Elder Abuse Committee, the Adult Abuse Conference Committee and the OASIS Advisory Committee. She has been a longtime member of the Mental Health Association of Onondaga County.
Her other “retirement” activity has been at her beloved Le Moyne College. A 1965 graduate, she grew up on the Heights as her father, Prof. James Munz, founded the mathematics program at the College. She has loaned her talents to talks and webinars about elder care, the history of the College, and reunion panels, just to name a few.
Ms. Corasaniti was a member of the Alumni Board at Le Moyne from 1996 to 2006 and again, from 2011 to 2015, serving as its National President. She received the College’s Ignatian Award for Professional Achievement in 2010.
Currently, she volunteers with Le Moyne’s CARE (Center for Aging Resources and Enrichment) Program, is a board member at the Spiritual Renewal Center, is a facilitator of the spiritual exercises at the College, and is a member of the IVC (Ignatian Volunteer Corps) Syracuse partnership.
Just a few years ago, Ms. Corasaniti was named a finalist in the Today’s Options Champions Competition. She designated the Elder Abuse Program at Vera House as her charity, and has championed the cause of elder abuse for nearly 40 years. Through her work with the Elder Abuse Program at Vera House, Ms. Corasaniti works diligently to identify and eliminate cases of abuse, neglect and financial exploitation.
