Lavonne McLamb serves as President of the Williamsburg Houses Resident Association, a trusted organization devoted to maintaining high-quality affordable housing for its tenants and members of the community.
An outspoken community leader, Ms. McLamb has committed her life to advocating for those most vulnerable, especially those experiencing housing insecurity and who are more susceptible to health challenges.
Ms. McLamb has spoken truth to power, ensuring the elderly residents of Williamsburg Houses had accurate information on COVID-19 testing throughout the pandemic.
A tireless worker, Ms. McLamb is steadfast in her effort to shed light on the constraints that the gentrification of Williamsburg has placed on long-time residents, urging us to find solutions to protect the established community.
In her role as President, Ms. McLamb secured COVID-19 test kits, along with personal protective equipment (PPE), to be safely distributed to the resident population to ensure that their needs were met during the pandemic.
Ms. McLamb has also worked closely with New York City Housing Authority and the Housing Development Corporation to secure additional funding and resources for long-term capital repairs to Williamsburg Houses.
Ms. McLamb, affectionately called “Ms. Lavonne” by residents at Williamsburg Houses, has been a fierce voice for her community. She advocates and speaks up against companies, and even elected officials, whom she feels may not have the best interest of the community at heart.
