Roosevelt Morring
Honoree Profile
Roosevelt Morring served in the New York State National Guard from 1985 to 1986, on delayed entry time as he finished high school. He then served in the United States Army, and then the Army Reserve.
During his enlistment, Mr. Roosevelt served with the Ft. Sill, Oklahoma 1st Cannon Training Battalion, the Ft. Hood Texas 1st Battalion 82nd, Field Artillery, 1st Calvary Division Warner Kaserne, Bamberg Germany 3rd Battalion 1st Field Artillery, and the 1st Armored Division. He returned home with an Honorable Discharge after serving eight years in the military.
For his service to our Nation, Mr. Morring earned numerous awards and medals, which include an Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Warriors Leadership Course Ribbon, National Defense Ribbon, Global War on Terror Ribbon and an Army Reserve Conduct Medal.
Since his discharge, Mr. Morring served as President of the Student Veterans Association Club at Nassau Community College (NCC), where he is now an Advisor. In 2009, Mr. Morring began losing his vision. However, that has not stopped him from giving back to the community he loves and to his fellow veterans.
Mr. Morring graduated from NCC magna cum laude, and with an Associate in Science Food and Nutrition and a Dietary Manager’s Certificate. He transitioned to LIU Post to pursue his dream of becoming a Dietary Nutritionist, which he accomplished in 2019, when he received his Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. At LIU Post, Mr. Morring wanted to give back to his local community and volunteered at a Long Island Cares food pantry, where he created a menu for clients and helped with food distribution.
Mr. Morring also dedicated time gardening at the veterans’ section of Gateway Park Organic Community Garden, working a plot to grow fresh vegetables to donate to his fellow veterans.
A staunch and dedicated advocate in his community, Mr. Morring currently serves on the Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Board of Directors as an Ambassador for the Blinded Veterans Association. He volunteers weekly at NCC’s food pantry, “The Nest," and at the Long Island Cares Essential Market, where he assists with regular nutrition and food preparation programs for veterans, providing nutrition education in conjunction with the Just Say Yes Program.
