Luis F. Hurtado

Luis F. Hurtado served in the United States Army. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Enlisting in 2000, Mr. Hurtado completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Eustis.
Mr. Hurtado was assigned to the 139th Transportation Company at Fort Totten, where he served as a cargo specialist, traveled to seaports across the States, and was deployed to Kuwait in 2003. He was transferred to the 1174th Transportation Battalion and promoted to Sergeant, serving as a Movements Specialist. In 2008, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant, serving as a Movements NCO. In 2009, he was deployed to Afghanistan with the 1174th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion, serving as the Imports NCOIC for the 831st Transportation Battalion at Bagram Air Force Base. In 2013, he was deployed with the 1174th DDSB to Kuwait and the Sultanate of Oman, serving as the movement and documentation NCOIC under the 840th Transportation Battalion.
Mr. Hurtado was promoted to Sergeant First Class in 2015, serving as the NCOIC for the Traffic Management Division (TMD), becoming a subject matter expert in vessel, rail, and freight operations. He traveled to several locations as a member of the 841st Trans BN’s Deployment and Distribution Support Team (DOST), streamlining processes to assist the 1-25th IBCT, 3rd ID, 101st Airborne Division, the 2nd MEFF Marine Expeditionary Force, and several other units with their deployment process. He was selected as the SDDC Traffic and Transportation Management NCO of the Year in 2014 and the SDDC Traffic and Transportation Management Senior NCO of 2015.
Mr. Hurtado holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and completed several courses, including the U.S. Army Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Global Air Transportation Execution System (GATES), Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Course, I CODES Maritime Course, TC-AIMS 11, the Warrior Leader Course, and the Advanced Leader Course.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Campaign Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, and many others.
Mr. Hurtado, a resident of Queens for over 30 years, has impacted his community by promoting pride in his military service and providing a role model for others throughout his 211/2 year military career.
