Martha Taylor, Esq.

Martha Taylor, Esq. is an esteemed educator and advocate who has worked on behalf of her community for decades.

Ms. Taylor received her law degree from St. John’s University in 1992, and was admitted to the New York State Bar the following year. From there, she represented Queens as a liaison to the Mayor’s Office, working to address the issue of homelessness in our communities and recommending neighborhood-based senior citizen centers, among other tasks.

Currently, Ms. Taylor operates her own private practice and works for the New York City Comptroller’s Office as the Director of Affirmative Claims. She has also served as a board member for the Queens County Bar Association, the Queens Women’s Bar Association, and as Vice President of the Brandeis Bar Association.

Ms. Taylor’s resume of service to her community is just as impressive as her professional one. She serves as Chair of the Parks Committee and Chair of the Transportation Sub-committee for Community Board 8 in Queens. Her service to our City’s parks extends beyond her work on the Board, as she is the founder of “Friends of Cunningham Park,” an organization dedicated to preserving and protecting one of the most beautiful parks in Northeast Queens. She also served on the Board of Trustees for the Queens Botanical Garden, which fosters a love and care for the environment through its gardens and educational programs.

Ms. Taylor’s impact can also be felt in our schools. She spent years as a member of the PTA, climbing the ladder from newsletter editor, to vice president, and then president.

Ms. Taylor has worked hard to make our community a better place to live for everyone who calls it home. It is with a great deal of admiration and gratitude that Senator Stavisky honors her as a Woman of Distinction.
