John Nonna achieved the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class - E-4.

Mr. Nonna, of Pleasantville, New York, served honorably on active duty in the United States Navy and Navy Reserve from 1970 to 1975. As a Reservist, from 1970 to 1971, Mr. Nonna was assigned to the Sumner-class destroyer USS Zellars.

Mr. Nonna was called up to active duty from 1971 to 1973 and was stationed at the Brooklyn Naval Station. He then returned to the Reserve and served in Naval Intelligence out of Manhattan until 1975.

Currently, Mr. Nonna serves as the Westchester County Attorney in the administration of County Executive George Latimer, as a Trustee of Westchester Community College, and he previously served as Chair of the Board of Trustees.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Committee on Civil Rights Under Law and the Friends of the Rockefeller Park Preserve Board. Mr. Nonna has served as Secretary and member of the Board of Governors of the New York Athletic Club. He was the managing partner of the New York office of Squire Patton Boggs (U.S.) LLP, and he practiced at other major law firms for over 30 years. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Mr. Nonna has a distinguished record of public service as a Westchester County Legislator, and in Pleasantville, where he has been Mayor, Trustee, and Acting Village Justice. Mr. Nonna was a member of the United States Olympic Fencing Team in 1972 and again in 1980, when he earned the Congressional Gold Medal and was a medalist in the Pan American Games.

He graduated from Regis High School, Princeton University, and New York University Law School. After law school, Mr. Nonna was a law assistant to Associate Judge Dominick Gabrielli of the New York Court of Appeals. He is a mediator for the United States District Court Mediation Program. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Westchester County Bar Association, Federal Bar Council, and New York City Bar Association and has served as Co-Chair of Directors of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
