Everlyn Nunez
Honoree Profile
Everlyn Nunez came to the United States in 1995 from her native Dominican Republic.
Ms. Nunez proudly graduated in 2004 from the CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice with both Bachelor of Arts and Associate degrees. She found her calling in service and made it her goal to give back to the community that had welcomed and supported her.
In 2016, Ms. Nunez began her journey, volunteering with Preschool 59 Annex and Public School 32 in the Bronx. In 2021, she was elevated to the role of P.S. 32’s Parent Coordinator. In this position, Ms. Nunez has diligently addressed the critical needs significantly affecting families within the school she works, as well as in the broader Belmont community.
As Parent Coordinator, Ms. Nunez worked alongside P.S. 32’s leadership to create a food pantry at the school. The pantry currently serves approximately 160 families on a monthly basis who are facing food insecurity, an issue that is sadly quite prevalent in The Bronx. To achieve this goal, Ms. Nunez established a partnership with the Food Bank for New York City, a citywide organization that supports emergency food relief organizations with funds, support, and resources and also helps connect New Yorkers in need with pantries across the City.
Ms. Nunez also oversees P.S. 32’s monthly clothing giveaways that are open to the entire Belmont community. She manages the influx of donations that come in when the call for assistance goes out, working with volunteers and partners to sort and distribute clothing to nearby schools and community members in need. She has also sought out partnerships to benefit the children of P.S. 32 by securing dental screenings, among other resources.
Ms. Nunez is the type of leader who boasts about those who support her endeavors, rather than her own accomplishments, and is incredibly humble about her impact locally. She believes that one must take action with a firm belief and dedicated passion.
